Here are the three French pigeons with three International performances in the top 2 percent extracted from the 2007 Irun race which of course was a substitute for the Marseilles International owing to the H5N1 outbreak in France. The location of Irun obviously suited the French pigeons but nevertheless all had previously scored in other International races in previous years.

Pigeon 371715.98 flew high in the Irun international at nine years of age. He is a cock. Again proof, if proof were needed, that age is also not an impediment to good performance for a really good pigeon in perfect health.
I think it is true to say all these three pigeons are unknown in the UK. Being unknown and an unfamiliar name in countries like the UK tends to undermine market value which proves the fact that market value, as arrived at in the UK, is not a good judge of value and again proves the truism that all markets can only operate on the information received. For those interested in pigeons and pigeon history is where we all started. The Reuter International News agency started by using pigeons to carry information faster and so influence the market sooner than its competitors. It still has the same maxim. In both our cases information is power.

246210.03 of Hanin-Lamoulen is an outstanding international hen not only because all her performances were in the top 100 places but also because it flew successfully from both Perpignan and Irun (at opposite ends of the Pyrenean chain of mountains) in the same season. This proves the fact that for really good pigeons with a full complement of navigational equipment, the race point and territory over which it must fly need not be familiar.
