Marguerite and Guy Lecarpentier
Passing through the coastal area of Normandy, coming back from vacation, I had the opportunity to visit Ouistreham, on the estuary of the Orne, a resort of 8000 inhabitants that has an enviable pigeon record.
At Ouistreham, Marguerite and Guy Lecarpentier (28, Route de Colleville) began in 1972 with two or three couples offered by Lucien Rebourg grocer and founding father of La Société Colombophile de Ouistreham. They immediately ordered more, having taken second in Du Groupement du Calvado youth category. From there they launched out with crosses in the year 2000 with pigeons from Follia, an excellent fancier from Calvados who was in the ascendancy and, more recently, as good neighbours with Charles Crespin and Sapphire Hétrus.

Their breeding has prospered with the “Little English", who won three victories with over 30,000 pigeons, herself down from a hen donated by an English fancier who did not wish to repatriate the pigeon from the other side of the Channel. A real bargain this hen has proved bringing in no less than 600 kg of grain for no more than 300 grams of feathers, a balance that is on the good side. She has very good ventilation of the 4 last feathers and has already drawn some small attention over the past 2 to 3 years with her merits at the distance.
In Route de Colleville a hundred pigeons over winter at the Lecarpentier lofts. The passion for the Group and Federal competitions in Normandy allows them to select a few good pigeons at 3 years of age to enter International competitions. This is the game, hens, that Guy prefers "A good female is worth a hundred males ", he said.
For these fanciers, health is paramount. Their pigeon loft must be dry whereas their natural environment is wet. They clean with diluted bleach (one carton for 1 litre of water) and then they repaint. Three meters deep and eight compartments with or without grating and kept as simple as possible, it is more practical as well for scraping out the breeding sections. Thanks to the proximity of sand, the pigeons enjoy marine minerals throughout the year. Essential ventilation is maintained using small chimneys.

Every winter, after the International Championship the great classics of summer, the celebration of the contests occurs in Brussels, Belgium. The winning pigeon is the fastest, that is to say that returning to his loft by the shortest route and most often, in Ouistreham, Normandy, a town dedicated to the worship of the racing pigeon, the winner arrives at Lecarpentier, on the hill, across the Orne River, where their oldest child in the sport came to the head of competition, 1st International hens in 2008 at 724 km and 60km / h.
Unfortunately, this small hen has a sad history. Although wounding a wing as a young bird it did not prevent her from accumulating prizes until the beginning of June 2009 when, for bad weather, the racepoint was moved to Langon from where she did not return home. Good luck little hen if you still live!
A big thank you for your hospitality Margaret and Guy Lecarpentier!
Best wishes and good luck with your pigeons in 2011.
The story of the “Little English” as recounted by Mr Lecarpentier
“One day an English pigeon came into my loft, she was 7 years old, a beautiful pigeon which I reported to the owner who sent me a letter saying he had lost her at Nantes. She had won three good positions in National races over two years in England, but he could not recover her because of the English law on epidemics at that time, 1998, and he sent me the pink sheet transferring title to me.
In 1999 she gave me a son with another English pigeon, which I already had the title to, of the same color, blue chequer, and this pigeon 677409.99 was my best pigeon from 300 to 800 kms for 7 years.
Later in 2003 I bred a hen from 677409.99, when he was paired with a black Gorin hen, and this daughter 250994.03, which I called “The Little English” was my best female at all distances, as was her father. I thought the wise thing for me was to pair the father and daughter together and they gave me some very good pigeons of which I put the best and most beautiful together to fix the lines. Now I continue to set the blood between cousin, niece and nephews, aunt and uncle so as to keep it not too close.
I expect it will go wrong now in 2011 but I try to be very careful and sometimes play very well and I am having fun! So “The Little English” 250994.03 has made a real French pigeon and gone from sprint to middle distance and long distance but she remains “The Little English” because her grandmother was English to begin with.
250994.03 is reproducing at the age of 7 and given me very good long distance pigeons with a Vandemeulebroucke cock, which is a Belgian pigeon, and I hope they will bring me happiness in the years ahead.
English blood from her grandmother and “The Little English” blood is still flowing everywhere! The “Little English” achieved the following in addition to good results in local groupings:-
Past results of “Little English”
1st ALCN Perpignan 2006, 770 kms, 3819 pigeons
3rd Bergerac 2004, 496 kms, 3000 pigeons
2nd National Pau 661 km 2,005 pigeons 1700
18th ALCN, 645th National , 4786th International Marseilles from 19800 pigeons at 790 km
Not bad at all!
Since 2000, I play them without pushing them and for 2011, I would ask more because they will be trained for long distances. This is the story of “The Little English” thank you!”
