Awards for Pooling.
Most British fanciers know very little about International Racing and this includes the BICC, the club who organises the British part of our International effort. Generally I think it is fair to say most people participate at arm’s length only from a British perspective. With this in mind, I would love it if a generous pigeon benefactor emerged who was prepared to offer an inducement of a £600 pounds divided into £100 pound packages to the first British fancier from the BICC - the New Narbonne Open or the BBC who manages to win International pool money in each of the following International races - Pau - Barcelona - Tarbes - Narbonne - Marseilles or Perpignan.
If all goes well and British fanciers live up to their previous form and not pool at International level then our imaginary benefactor might still have his money intact by August. - If that happens the inducement will double the following year and a further £600 - (£200 a race), added to the existing £600 as further inducement. By this time I fully expect fanciers to come out in their droves placing their money on Hens in the Miezen hens pool - Cocks in the Belle or Unique or even pairs of pigeons in the ‘AS’ pairs pools. Everyone will suddenly become an expert in International pools knowing all the wrinkles, all the twists and turns and various odds better than William Hill does on Derby Day.
All this is good stuff, without malice but this is only a fantasy attempt to induce in the British fancier an awareness of the enormous potential lucking in the British Sport. I hope if British fanciers ever decide it is worth their while and in their best interest, to take the gloves off and really get organised with a sizeable entry. There is no doubt it would change the sport if we did begin to get international results as a matter of course and it would only cost £600 to get it going. Indeed the RPRA itself should set it off if they want to stay in the driving seat. That is if they also not only want the sport to regain same quality it once had but to find a new and even higher ideal. £600 would certainly be cheaper and more fruitful than paying to represent pigeons and pigeon racing at County Shows by handing out balloons to small children. Headlines are always written by competing in the spotlight of international competition. Ask Usain Bolt if you don’t believe this to be true.
