Preview of Barcelona 2009
At the beginning from the pigeon season, fanciers from the long distances are looking forward to the moment that their season is starting. It is a long time waiting, but finally, there is mid June. The long distance season in Holland and Belgium has started. In Holland we start with the National classic race from St. Vincent, with its rich history. And one week later there is the International exclusive Pau and so you can basket every week till the first week of August for one or even two long distance races, between 800 and 1200 kilometre.

When I am writing this we basketed yesterday evening (28 June) our pigeons for the International classic race from Barcelona. This race is world-wide very famous and the whole pigeon world is following the arrivals on the Internet. The fanciers did the best they can to basket their favourites in top condition. Who will be immortal in pigeon world next weekend? Will it be a well-known professional managed loft with a lot of pigeons in the race, or is it the fancier with the small basket? I am more afraid of the fancier with the small basket. They often have proven long distance pigeons of great quality and they get individual preparation for this Barcelona, which is not possible for the fanciers with many pigeons.

Looking forward, and to the weather forecast, it seams that it will be a tough Barcelona with hardly any arrivals in Holland round the middle of the 2nd day. 30 degrees or more and an Easterly wind, it will make a battle for only the strongest.
In the National marking station Middelharnis 274 pigeons were basketed for this Barcelona race. Most fanciers were a little nervous and were glad that finally their favourites were in the basket. I am sure that these pigeons included some early arrivals. The quality of the pigeons from this area is a very high level and in the past brought here big victories from Barcelona, and early birds, there are such here today:-
In the National marking station Middelharnis 274 pigeons were basketed for this Barcelona race. Most fanciers were a little nervous and were glad that finally their favourites were in the basket. I am sure that these pigeons included some early arrivals. The quality of the pigeons from this area is a very high level and in the past brought here big victories from Barcelona, and early birds, there are such here today:-

Joop Torreman from Rockanje, who won the International Barcelona race a few years ago. But also the famous Hagens Bros., who won with Sarina the first International hens. Also Grootenboer from Stellendam won a few years ago the 3rd National. I also made these good results by winning the 3rd National and the 5th International.
Now it is the count down to the coming weekend and lets hope that the threat from thunderstorm, by this rising temperatures, will stay away until after the weekend, so that we all can enjoy a great Barcelona race 2009 and all the participating country’s have a chance for early arrivals.
Also in the UK Barcelona is more and more popular. They basketed 700 pigeons. (Belgium 13600 and Holland 8102). When the wind is blowing from the south also in the UK they can have a nice place on the list. .They also have great quality of distance racers and sometimes there are sensational arrivals, such as a few years ago an unbelievable result on great distance from Tarbes and also on the last Pau race with NW wind, arrivals on the day of releasing.

Just a few nights of dreaming from Barcelona 2009. Fortunately the nights are short this time of the year and it is not a long time anymore before you sit and wait for your Barcelona favourites and then……. No pigeons known in the whole country and there is one coming with high speed direct from the right direction. The adrenaline flows through your body and what follows then????????????
