Of course there are Secrets.

Secrets - of course there are secrets in the Pigeon Sport but not the kind of secret most expect. Most fanciers who believe in secrets want the magic wand variety. Chazam! - Bang Wallop - a flash of lightening and suddenly you turn bad pigeons into good ones the pigeons begin to exercise from nothing to an hour and a half - equally suddenly first prizes come tippling in like confetti at a wedding and the loft gets a huge slice of glamour not previously thought possible.
The kind of secrets that are the real secrets, are ones of realization. Sometimes the realization is gradual when after a long time the penny suddenly drops and you begin to realize something you should have known all along but for various reasons denied or completely missed the point.

Realization secrets happen in clubs as well as in fanciers.  This week for instance the BICC and the BBC have joined forces to  represent the UK  and although I am writing this after liberation but before the result  -  I predict a marvellous result for the UK.  My friend Jeff Horn had a courtesy telephone call from a Chinese man who was filming the Barcelona International in Europe for Chinese television. This man from China forecast a good race for the UK on the basis that we were now sending more pigeons that ever before  - that the English National Flying Club were at Tarbes and as a result there  would be plenty of UK pigeons crossing the channel. This man  was no fool -  you could see he wanted to  establish a reliable contact in the UK should the result turn out in our favour. His belief that UK pigeons could be good in International competition provided there were enough UK pigeons in the sky heading in our direction was pragmatic as well as strategic good sense.

I think he is wise and right and I think it will also be a good weekend for the UK and not only that but the realization that combined forces of the BICC and the BBC are good for everyone including the sport itself has taken a long time to mature.

Now it has, lets celebrate the fact and realise it was a real secret waiting to be discovered not a magic wand but a gradual realization that there was something better out there  - ‘a tide waiting to be taken at the flood’.  This year could be it. It’s been a long time coming - we should all clap our hands in expectation of a great event. Now I’m putting myself on the line - see if I am right?  See if this big secret realization has gouged itself into our all our futures. I sincerely hope it has. After all going it alone is a very costly enterprise especially when it fails to deliver results. We have been going it alone for far too long.
